According to the latest data from social media monitoring site Socialbakers. com, Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ Thursday announcement about his resignation from his highly-esteemed post witnessed thousands of Apple fans flocking to the Facebook page of the technology company.
Jobs, who has been the driving force behind the stupendous success of Apple’s slew of electronic devices – including the iPod, the iPhone, and the iPad -, announced his resignation as the Apple CEO on August 25; handing the reins of the company to Tim Cook.
Going by the statistics shared by Socialbakers. com on August 26, the news of Jobs’ resignation soon spread across the world, leading a horde of Job’s fans to the his Facebook fan page – so much so that, within 24 hours, the number of fans to the page increased sharply by 12.1 percent, or 22,821 fans.
Since the Facebook fan page merely contains an epigrammatic description of Steve Jobs taken from Wikipedia, it is apparent that fans ‘liked' the page largely out of their respect for the much-respected CEO’s work rather than insights into the future of Apple.
In fact, other than the Socialbakers. com site, statistics from search biggie Google have also revealed that searches for ‘Steve Jobs’ or those related to him increased notably – especially in North America, Europe and Australia - over the 24 hours following Jobs’ resignation announcement.
