An alarming revelation made by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has left all the hospitals in doubt over as to how to provide treatment to emergency cases. It has come to light that many hospitals are neglecting the hygiene and precautions while providing treatment to the emergency patients lying in the corridors.
During a surprise investigation on Tallaght Hospital by the health watchdog, Tallaght Hospital faculty was found guilty of treating a tuberculosis patient in the corridor rather than providing treatment in an isolated area.
Following the findings of the inspection, the health watchdog has urged hospital authorities to stop providing treatment to patients in the corridors so that rush from the emergency room could be eased. Following the orders, Tallaght Hospital is asking the health watchdog to issue the same warning to all the hospitals.
It has been revealed that because of the financial crisis in the Tallaght Hospital, it became mandatory for it to cut its bedding by 1,900. Because of the cuts in the beds, a number of patients were no longer admitted in the Hospital. As per the warnings issued by the health watchdog, the hospital will be required to stop providing treatment to the patients in the corridors by September 1.
