Windows Phone Marketplace hits 30,000 apps

The Windows Phone Marketplace, which debut less than a year ago, has so far been enjoying fairly steady growth, figures posted on the Windows Phone developer blog revealed.

According to the newly posted figures, the Windows Phone Marketplace hit the 30,000 app milestone earlier this month. The figure is impressive when we take the age of the Marketplace into account.

The number of apps in the Windows Phone Marketplace was 11,500 and 25,000 as of March and July, respectively, this year.

Windows Phone Marketplace’s senior director Todd Brix also announced that nearly 30,000 Windows Phone apps and game titles would also run on Mango, which is Microsoft’s newest update for Windows Phone 7 operating system.

Windows Phone 7 operating system has already been delivered to manufacturers, who will run their upcoming handsets on the latest software.

Despite steady growth, the Windows Phone Marketplace is still a small player in comparison to the big app stores such as Apple’s App Store, which boasts of its around 500,000 apps, and Google’s Android Market, which has nearly 250,000 apps.
