John Bongard revealed his complete heal-out from prostate cancer while the prostate cancer awareness programme conducted by the Prostate Cancer Foundation in the wake of the arrival of prostate cancer awareness month.
Mr. Bongard expressed gratitude towards the General Practitioner who prescribed him to undergo Prostate-Specific Antigen blood test (PSA) for the detection and treatment of the dreadful disease.
It was in 2008 when Mr. Bongard was detected with prostate cancer, and his GP kept a check on his PSA level since he was 50. He was fortunate enough that the disease had not started to spread in his body. Mr. Bongard had been through radiation sessions and brachytherapy, instead of going through an amputation of the gland. The consequence of the radiations was that Mr. Bongard had to make frequent visits to the bathroom especially at night.
As per Mr. Bongard, previous Chief Executive of Fisher & Paykel Appliances, "If it wasn't for PSA it would probably have been some time further out into the future before my cancer was detected and that may not have given me as good a chance of surviving as I have right now".
