Samsung introduces 3 Bada-based smartphone models

Samsung introduces 3 Bada-based smartphone modelsSamsung Electronics has come up with three smartphone models based on Bada- the South Korean electronics giant's own operating system.

Samsung's Bada-based three handsets will be Wave 3, Wave M and Wave Y. The Wave 3 will feature a 4-inch AMOLED screen and a 5-megapixel camera.

The Wave M and Wave Y will be low-cost phones. The Wave M will come pre-installed with the South Korean firm's first instant messaging tool, called chatON; while the entry-level Wave Y handset will feature a 3.2-inch screen, and will hit store-shelves in October this year.

The three upcoming models add to seven Wave series line ups that the firm introduced since first Bada-based product was released in May last year.

Moving to its own operating system shows a change in Samsung's strategy as it had so far been using Google's Android operating system for its devices. It also shows that the electronics firm wants to shed its image of a pure hardware manufacturer to become more software-focused.

In addition, the firm has plans to pull its different products together under its own software platform and online apps store Samsung Apps, which offers around 13,000 apps.
