UK supermarket chain Sainsbury's is trialing a new shopping trolley that has built-in iPad docks and speakers, and allows people to use the tablet computer while shopping.
The supermarket chain is trialing the new trolleys in its store at Cromwell Road in Kensington, London.
The innovative trolleys also feature a sensor mounted at its bumpers to warn users in case they get absorbed in their devices and come too close to other customers. In addition, the trolleys come equipped with solar powered battery packs that allow customers to charge their iPads.
The trolley has been developed in partnership with Sky and is intended to provide a boost to Sky Go TV on demand service.
Speaking about the new trolley, designer Setwo Designs’ Ian Burgess said, “The trolley can be used in the traditional way for shopping yet streams the latest sports news easily.”
If the trialing gives the desired results, the new trolley could be introduced at other Sainsbury’s stores also.
