Hospital Negligence Results In Transplant of HIV Body Parts

Due to the negligence of National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUP) receptionist, five patients were mistakenly transplanted with HIV infected organs.

Taipei-based NTUP posted on its website that receptionist by mistake heard the word “nonreactive” during a telephonic conversation where donors’ HIV test report was being discussed.

The incident went like this: 38-year-old Chiu decided to donate his body parts when he got to know that he does not have many days with him. And, he was tested positive for HIV, but due to staff member’s negligence, doctors agreed to transplant his body parts in five patients without knowing anything about the receptionist mistake.

After knowing about the incident, a committee has been formed to look in to the matter, and all five patients have been place on AIDS treatment and are under constant medical supervision.

Hospital recognizes its fault and has declared that they are ready to support. Public has been stunned by the incident and is questioning the alertness of staff members.

As per media reports, blamed receptionist could be termed for 10 year imprisonment, and even NTUP would also have to bear the axe in which it won’t be ban to conduct such operations for at least one year.
