The 2011 IFA conference in Berlin gave a glimpse of upcoming iPad-rivals from Japanese electronics giant Sony.
The new Sony tablet computers, viz. the Sony S and Sony P, have some very striking features that allow them to boast that they are `like no other'.
The Sony S tablet will come in three configurations, viz. 16GB and 32GB with WiFi only, and a 16GB version with WiFi and 3G. The WiFi only version will run on Android 3.1 OS, while the 3G version will run on Android 3.2 OS. The device will feature a 9.4-inch touchscreen, a rear-facing and a front-facing camera, a NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, and 4GB of storage.
The second tablet, the Sony P, will be available only in one version. It will feature similar specs to the S series, with both WiFi and 3G connectivity. However, it will offer less storage space than the Sony S. But, users will be able to bolster storage with the help of a microSD card.
Introducing the new tablets, Sony's CEO Howard Stringer said, "Apple makes iPad, but does it make movies? Warner Bros and Fox produce fine movies, but what about their cameras and smartphones? Sony is where art meets technology."
The 16GB, WiFi only version of the Sony S has been priced at £399, while both the 16GB, 3D-enabled version and the Sony P will cost £499.
