Taiwanese handset maker HTC has introduced two new smartphones based on the latest version of Microsoft's mobile phone operating system, Windows Phone Mango.
The two Windows Phone Mango-based smartphones, the HTC Radar and the HTC Titan, are likely to be the first handsets that will enable Microsoft to compete with Apple's iPhone and Google's Android OS.
The HTC Titan features a 4.7-inch super LCD WGVA touchscreen with a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels, an 8-megapixel camera, and a 1.5GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.
The Radar comes equipped with a 3.8-inch super LCD touchscreen of the same resolution, a 1GHz processor, and a 5-megapixel camera, along with 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory.
Google's Android was the Number 1 smartphone OS during the second quarter, with 48 per cent of global market share; while Apple Inc's iOS was at the second spot, with a 19 per cent share.
Currently, Microsoft's share in the smartphone OS market is roughly 4 per cent, but the software giant hopes that Mango will help it snatch a big chunk of OS market from rivals. According to analysts' forecasts, Windows Phone will account for around 19.5 per cent share of the global smartphone OS market by 2015.
Windows Phone Mango-based Radar and Titan will be available in the European and some Asian countries in early October.
