Blueberries A Cure For Dementia?

Blueberries A Cure For Dementia? In a study conducted by the University of Cincinnati in collaboration with the National Institute of Health, researchers revealed that blueberries could be the answer to dementia, along with improving memory in octogenarians.

The study was conducted on subjects with an average age of 78. Half of them were told to drink blueberry juice everyday for a period of 12 weeks while the others were given a placebo, a drink which they believed was blueberry juice but wasn't.

The results confirmed the hypothesis with persons taking blueberry juice showing a remarkable improvement in memory in the short period, a sure sign of regeneration cells, while there was no change amongst the members of the control taking the placebo. The tendency towards depression also seemed to decline amongst the blueberry juice drinkers.

Anthocyanins, a compound of chemicals contained in the berry seem to be responsible for for stalling the deterioration of brain cells in persons as they age, along with improving the flow of memory to the brain. The anti oxidant and anti - inflammatory effects of these polyphenolic compounds are also helpful in fighting off numerous other diseases such as cancer, heart disease, cataract, asthma and cystisis, hence the term, super food.
