Acclaimed Japanese automaker Toyota’s European business recently confirmed that it had plans to take up again round-the-clock production in January next year.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing France, which produces the popular Yaris, will resume three-shift operations starting 3rd of January next year. Currently, the manufacturer is going on with two-shift operations.
The decision to increase the working hours has been taken as the company is preparing to launch the Yaris hybrid in 2012.
The Toyota Yaris is the company’s best-selling model in Europe. Since its production began in January 2001, Toyota Motor Manufacturing France has produced around 2 million units. Now, the manufacturer is targeting for annual sales of 200,000 units of the Yaris in Europe.
The move will generate as many as 800 additional jobs, with the recruitment process starting as early as this month.
Earlier, the three-shift timetable was used between February 2006 and July last year.
It may be noted here that Toyota Motor Manufacturing France is the Japanese automaker’s manufacturing facility where three-shift operations can be arranged.
