It seems that the Waikato District Health staff has taken enough of nonsense as it has warned that beyond a certain limit of violence from patients, police will have to be roped in considering the safety of nurses and support staff.
After bearing violence at its worst, the Waikato District Health Board has made it loud and clear that miscreants in the hospital would be dealt with utmost discipline and if required police will be called in to inhibit such unwarranted violent acts.
For combating such challenges, security staff would be given training.
Recalling unfortunate incidents, Waikato Hospital Nurse Manager Jenni Yeates reported an increased number of complaints related with violent attacks and verbal abuse from patients.
"We never used to see stabbings and the drug-fuelled frenzies that we see now”, she said.
Instead of couple of drunkard patients hurling abuses at the medical staff, gangs have been made to instigate such violent incidents.
Being in medical profession, one needs to deal with such cases at times, but if life is at threat, self-defense needs to be considered.
Moreover, Waikato Hospital Security Manager Dean Ria fully supports the medical staff and assured complete assistance to avoid such unacceptable incidents.
