Finally, the people of Auckland will not be overcharged for their treatments during after-hours at the clinics. The District Health Boards plan to reduce the fee for the medical care to patients after the closing time of clinics.
Various DHBs are going to put the plan into action after 10 years since the revelation of the Primary Health Care Strategy in 2001. With the imposition of the policy, the DHBS believes that the hospitals will witness an increase in the visits made by patients in the emergency department.
The authorities aim to maintain the link between the patients and their General Practitioners and can utilize the facility of after-hours. As per the new policy, people are not restricted to visit emergency department, instead they can also visit clinics.
As per White Cross Chief Executive Alistair Sullivan, "All the parties, including A&M, PHOs and DHBs, have agreed to strictly monitor and measure both attendances at after-hours clinics by patients and effects on individual practices”. The scheme is on monthly basis, and the children from zero to 6 years are not charged.
The fees for check-ups during after-hours is $15 at 3 clinics and another clinic is approved to charge $25. The charges for 6-17 years patient is fixed at $11 to $45 and patients above 18 years are to be charged $17 to $50.
