Heart Disease Risk Increases by Age, Not by Menopause

Heart Disease Risk Increases by Age, Not by MenopauseSince long we have been hearing regarding hormonal impact of menopause, and the severity of its affects on the woman and her life.

To find some firm truths over same, an Indian-origin scientist ran a study, and found that it is ageing and its related factors that primarily increases the risk of cardiovascular death for women rather than the hormonal impact of menopause, which was earlier being stated as the cause for same.

The findings also clearly focused on the how heart health remains in pre-menopausal women, who were previously believed to be at a small risk of death from heart attack.

"Our data show there is no big shift toward higher fatal heart attack rates after menopause. What we believe is going on is that the cells of the heart and arteries are aging like every other tissue in the body, and that is why we see more and more heart attacks every year as women age", says Mr. Dhananjay Vaidya, PhD, an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the study`s leader.

He also added in his statement that ageing is the only cause of arrival of menopause and its effects as well in a females' body, thus saying that its altered hormonal impacts play big role in increasing heart disease risk would be wrong.
