It has been revealed according to recent reports that the rising number of deaths in youngsters are because of alcohol. According to official figures, it has been revealed that a number of deaths are caused because of youngsters indulging in alcohol abuse.
It has been revealed according to a special report of the Child and Youth Mortality Review Committee that as many as 31% of the road accident deaths, about 16% of drowning deaths, and a number of other causes of deaths such as poisoning and fatal assaults, in the years 2005-07 have been caused by alcohol abuse in youngsters. Drinking is becoming a huge issue these days, with about 52% teens dying as a result of their mistakes, when drunk.
"Alcohol behaves like a toxic tide impinging on all children and young people born and growing up in New Zealand”, said Dr. Nick Baker from Nelson Pediatrics, the chairman of the committee.
There is need for strict measures to be taken in this regard to educate children about the ill-effects of alcohol abuse. They need to understand why it is wrong to indulge in excessive drinking so that the levels of deaths come down.
