Google buys restaurant guide Zagat Survey Google, the world's most popular internet search engine, on Thursday confirmed its purchase of restaurant guide Zagat Survey.

Zagat is a well-known restaurant guide firm that offers a reliable and comprehensive view of where to drink, eat, stay and play globally based on thousands of ratings and reviews.

The purchase is expected to help Google shore up its local services. The internet search giant will be able to integrate Zagat ratings & reviews, and blend them with comments from Google+ to offer more pertinent search results and content.

Google's Marissa Mayer, vice president of Local, Maps & Location Services, said they were very excited to collaborate with Zagat.

Announcing the purchase on the Official Google Blog, Marissa said, "I'm incredibly excited to collaborate with Zagat to bring the power of Google search and Google Maps to their products and users."

Google said Zagat would be a cornerstone of their local offerings. However, the internet search firm declined to disclose the financial terms of the deal.
