Critics have raised concerns over pregnancies observed through donated sperms and emphasized on the need of efficient polices to regulate them consequent to a scenario where a donor has fathered not less than 150 infants.
On the other hand, a number of sperm banks in the country have faced criticism for taking advantage of high quality sperms and making them available for couples facing difficulties to conceive naturally.
Further, the incident has pinpointed the spread of various genetic diseases along with worries about a serious issue where an offspring unconsciously can engage in inter-breeding.
The Human Fertilization Embryology Authority of Britain has already established a legal limit insisting only 10 families to avail the benefits from same donor. Simultaneously, other European countries also outlined policies to practice similar measures.
Commenting on the issue, the Founder of Donor Sibling Registry, Wendy Kramer, claimed that the donated sperms benefit families across the world, hence there are no or very less chances of the risk of incest between offsprings of the same donor. He said: “This donor who has fathered 150 children is the largest we are aware of but in time he will have more children. It will just keep on growing”.
