South Korean electronics giant Samsung’s upcoming Windows 8 OS-based tablet will come equipped with an Intel processor, a source familiar with the device revealed.
According to the unnamed source, Windows’ chief Steven Sinofsky will use the upcoming BUILD developers’ conference in Anaheim, Calif. To demonstrate an early version of Windows 8 OS running on an Intel processor- equipped Samsung tablet.
It may be noted here that Samsung’s existing Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet runs on Google’s Android OS and uses an NVIDIA processor.
Microsoft’s Windows 8 OS is much more tablet-friendly software than Windows 7, and will run on both Intel or AMD chips and ARM.
But, the report that the Samsung tablet will have Intel chip inside could be viewed as a surprise as several Windows 8 tablets are expected to favor ARM processors as they are more power efficient than Intel chips.
However, Intel is making hard efforts to close the power efficiency gap soon. Power efficient model of Intel’s Sandy Bridge Core i series processors will be seen inside Ultrabooks, which will be as thin as 0.6 inches. Intel has already started accelerating development of power efficient Atom processors.
