Today marks the World Oral Health Day and in order to utilize it to the fullest, Age Concern New Zealand is asking people and especially the elderly ones to keep good care of their dental hygiene.
Liz Baxendine, who is Age Concern National President, stated that oral hygiene is as important as general well being. Telling about the importance of dental care, she said that if dental care does not get due care then it could lead to problems, which would later affect general health thus deteriorating well-being.
Balanced diet is the key to maintain dental hygiene among old people and if diet is right then one does not need to take tension about his teeth. Then next come regular dental check-ups with a dentist due to these checkups one would get to know the problems and would get timely treatment.
Liz was of the view that people often do not go to doctor as they found the treatments to be expensive but she affirmed that they should not forget that pain of drill is not that stressful. Another thing that elderly people could do is that they should roam around and get the knowledge about the dentist and their fee.
