Last year, no such problems were highlighted by the maker of medical devices that are specially manufactured to implant in and around the heart, but this time a conceptual theory has been revealed out by an Irish study. According to this study, the cables linked with heart can cause a high rate of problems to the patients. In this regard, St. Jude Medical Inc. (STJ) has announced to conduct an analysis over the same. It has decided to gather some more information on the wiring from implantable heart devices to find out the truth.
Now, St. Jude is on its way to review the information that it has collected from one single center in Ireland. According to the company, it is something different from theirs on the whole experience.
The Riata and Riata ST family of cables that are known for connecting defibrillators to the heart with the help of silicone and that too in way of an exterior insulation material, are the two leads that are at question the most.
According to this study produced last month at the European Society of Cardiology Congress, researchers after scrutinizing 212 patients of Northern Ireland, all of them implanted with Riata leads, have found that around 15% of them had an "insulation breach". And this is a problem that is responsible for malfunctioning of the device.
