FDA In Favor of Tobacco Companies’ Right

FDA In Favor of Tobacco Companies’ RightFinally, the woes of tobacco manufacturers are being heard by the government. Recently, the Food and Drug Administrators have said that the plain packaging of cigarette is marring the freedom of speech of the tobacco manufacturers.

According to the new law, the tobacco manufacturers are required to carry pictures showing the ill impact of smoking which should follow the anti smoking message, "Smoking Kills". This step by the government was first criticized by the tobacco manufacturers.

Following the unrest among the tobacco companies, they filed suit in Washington claiming that the graphic and labeling are not only unconstitutional but also forceful way of promoting anti smoking campaign.

However, the FDA has shown interest in the graphic and labeling over the cigarettes but they are of the view that the rights of the tobacco manufacturers should not be marred by these policies.

The US is not alone which has been grappling with the continuous unrest caused by the tobacco manufactures over the packaging policy. There are about 40 countries, which just like the US underwent the same problem prior to imposing stricter cigarette packaging. In these countries, graphics showing infected limbs together with cigarette warning are depicted.
