The performance gap between chips from Intel and its competitors is closing rapidly, Intel's director of graphics architecture Tom Piazza said.
Speaking to the Bridge confab at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF), Mr. Piazza said that he didn't see any reason why the performance gap wouldn't close.
Mr. Piazza confidently said, "I expect that that gap, from everything that I've seen, is closing fast," adding, "I don't see any reason why it won't close all the way."
Currently, Intel chips are facing cut throat competition from the side of market leader AMD's Fusion APUs.
But, Intel's next-generation "Ivy Bridge" chips are expected to narrow the lead held by AMD's chips. Intel's "Ivy Bridge" chips will bring a host of enhancements, including integrated graphics.
Apart from enhanced graphics performance, Ivy Bridge will also support low-power DDR3L memory, dynamic overclocking control of the compute & graphics cores, power-management enhancements, security enhancements to guard against escalation of privilege attacks, and all that.
