A recent study is of the view that camps held to promote sex education should be directed not only to youngsters but also to adults. According to the proponents of the study, sexually active women often neglect the safety precautions which could promote sexually transmitted diseases.
The study was conducted by the researchers from Florida University who believe that elderly women are aware of sexually transmitted diseases but find it uncomfortable to discuss it with their doctors. The findings of the study have been published in the Journal of Consumer Affairs.
Practitioners and doctors are often misguided regarding the awareness of the elderly women about sexually transmitted disease. Therefore, it is now being thought of as to how elderly women should be made aware of it without making them feel embarrassed.
It is believed better communication between doctors and women can help in spreading awareness. The study has found that women tend to neglect the use of condoms as they are fearsome that they will be rejected by their partner.
Therefore, it has been recommended that special advertisements should be launched promoting safe sex to target elderly women. This is for the first time when a study has highlighted the danger of women succumbing to sexually-transmitted diseases.
