Families who have lost their loved ones due to suicides along with Suicide prevention group Casper have urged Prime Minister John Key to review the strategies for overcoming suicidal problems.
The move was initiated by the families after the count of the suicide cases have increased in the communities in Masterton and Kawerau.
Casper Spokeswoman Maria Bradshaw stated that the organization and the families of the victims have asked Mr. Key to carry out a review of the coroner's court that helps in instructing the people about the problems faced by the people who commit suicide and also problems face by their families.
Casper has asked to move the suicide prevention services from mental health clinics to families and communities to spread more awareness.
It has revealed that the mental health prevention results in increased number of suicide cases and the authorities should adopt the social approach where society should be focused and not only the mental health.
According to OECD data, New Zealand has highest rate of youth suicide amongst the OCED countries and the rate is two times more than the rate in the US and Australia and five times more than that of UK.
The Prime minister has agreed with the suggestions of Casper and has approved to initiate a Royal Commission of Inquiry into suicide, so that better approach could be adopted to decrease the count of suicide cases.
