Jean Kittson, the actress and the ambassador for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month is recommending Australian women to gain knowledge about the symptoms of ovarian cancer. It is said that one in 70 Australian women develop ovarian cancer in their lifetime. To reduce the number of deaths that occur due to this disease, Kittson, is persuading Australian females to read up in detail about the symptoms of ovarian cancer.
Addressing the reporters in Sydney, Kittson said, "This year, 850 women will die from ovarian cancer, so that's one woman every 11 hours. So our message is, don't leave it till the last minute, don't leave it till the 11th hour. Please learn the symptoms... because that is the only thing that will save your life".
Ovarian Cancer Australia awareness campaign, starting in February, is mainly concerned about clearing misconceptions regarding symptoms of the cancer.
Worried about this Kittson added, "It won't. There is no test for ovarian cancer at the moment and the only way you confirm diagnosis is when you have surgery, unfortunately. Symptoms of ovarian cancer are mainly the abdominal, pelvic pain and the swelling. If you diagnose it late, your chances of survival are very, very small. But if diagnosed early, there is a 95 per cent chance of survival ".
