Majority of Brits 'concerned about NHS waiting times'

For the majority of the Brits without private medical insurance, cutbacks to the NHS underscore a worrying scenario --- they feel it would imply that they may not only have to bear with the ever-growing waiting lists for treatment, but may even be turned away for treatment!

Going by the findings of a survey by health insurance firm Simplyhealth, there are concerns galore among more than half of Britons that they will have to wait longer; with 45 percent off them even worried that the NHS cuts mean that they will be deprived of medical care.

In other words, the Simplyhealth survey revealed that people in Britain are concerned that they may have to wait longer for medical treatment this year, especially if they do not have private medical insurance.

In fact, with a near one-half of the survey respondents apprehensive that the NHS’ budget cuts could result in them being denied treatment altogether, as many as 59 percent respondents said that they were thinking of taking out private medical insurance so as to make sure that they can get timely access to treatment.

In addition, since almost one-third of the respondents also said that they now check their symptoms on the Internet to ascertain whether they actually need a visit to a doctor, Dr Pixie McKenna - resident doctor on Embarrassing Bodies programme on Channel 4 - said that that extended waiting times would surely bring on "stress and anxiety" for the people!
