Assumpta, a sad mother, experienced immense relief when her 14-years-old kid, Meadhbh McGivern, acknowledged her while sitting by the side of her bed. On Thursday, the Child had received a critical 14-hour long liver transplant. Earlier in July, the teenager missed the scheduled transplant due to a flight delay.
While notifying about her health conditions, Mrs. McGivern applauded the hospital staff for its support and also joining family to celebrate its daughter’s improved health and said: "It very much depends on whether there are any setbacks. Every person is an individual”. Besides the hospital staff, she also appreciated her brave kid and called her a real fighter.
Liver transplant is a critical procedure as liver is a rough and flexible organ that has tremendous ability to renew itself. However, some major health conditions including hepatitis, cirrhosis or liver failure has enough capability to collapse the organ. Further, damaged liver is not able to perform its innumerable functions and therefore transplant is the only possible way to save a patient, under these circumstances.
Liver plays an important role in synthesis of a compound named as bile through the breaking of hemoglobin, storage of iron as well as vitamins, destruction of old blood cells along with formation of clotting agents.
