Virginia Lee County's Cumberland Gap National Historical Park has witnessed death of a bat that was identified carrying rabies. The bat was found dead in the Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Store.
The U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has revealed the news of the rabid bat after the test results came positive.
The Health Department of Virginia has warned all the residents to stay away from bats and not to touch them. Also, they have been asked to get their pets vaccinated for rabies as a part of precautionary measures.
Health Officer Dr. Diana Yu has notified that in summer season a lot of bats can be seen and the people who had touched the bat might be at a high risk of rabies.
Dr. Diana added, "People who walked, shopped, or worked at Jo-Ann's are not at risk unless they came in contact with the bat". According to health officials, two people have been notified to be in contact with bats till now, and both received vaccination against rabies recently.
The people who have contacted the bat will have to receive five injections within two weeks time which will help improve the immune system.
