County Commissioner Guy McCook will be giving a speech during the opening ceremony of the Relay for Life organised in Scotland County's in the evening.
The sincerity of the country people and their way of providing care to the cancer fighters has resulted in building an even more strong relationship among people participating in the Relay for Life. McCook is a cancer survivor. He was diagnosed with the disease previous year, but could not undergo surgery due to some complication the doctors could not operate the tumor.
McCook was provided with chemotherapy for a long period. McCook was not pained to see his own suffering, but when he saw other cancer patients fighting their condition and that he was of no help to them agonized him.
Finally, after long drawn chemo sessions, McCook underwent life-saving operation for his tumor in Duke, which was successful. McCook feels that it is the Relay for Life, which keeps reminding people of all those people who suffered the devastating disease of cancer.
As per McCook, "Whether you survive cancer or don't, I think it has a huge impact on you and those around you. What Relay does is increase awareness in the community".
