It has been recently revealed by Andrew Witty the CEO of GlaxoSmithKline, the drug giant, that the world is currently in need for effective pricing of drugs. It is essential that everyone has the access to drugs, as and when they need them, in order to foster homogeneity and eradicate diseases from the world. With the increasing concerns of the world government about belt-tightening, it is essential that drug prices are manipulated for the benefit of people.
He added that innovation could be curbed and killed if pricing concerns of the drug industry are not dealt with on time. If there are too many price cuts, the industry might not be able to produce new and innovative medicines to those in need.
There is continuous need for money for research and development in the drug industry. There is need for efficient pricing. Money has to be saved from places where unnecessary spending is done, and should be utilized in places of need.
“I believe [that] if we deliver a true innovation that creates value for the patient and for the system, we should be rewarded for that. I will stand up and defend that all day long”, he added.
