The notorious bowel cancer has been impacting the lives of many men all over the world. But sadly, many men are mistaken that the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is curable and preventable. It is estimated that about 15,000 Irish men are suffering from bowel diseases.
Majority of the patients diagnosed with IBD are in the age group of 15 and 30. It has been informed that a patient suffering from IBD experiences inflammation in the intestine. If the disease is not medically treated timely then it may lead to Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Considering the lack of awareness among the men about the bowel disease, a campaign named “Get Gutsy” is about to be launched. The objective of the campaign is to make people aware about the bowel cancer.
During the campaign men will be encouraged to get checked their bowel for cancer by simply visiting their GPs. It has come to light that the symptoms of bowel cancer are often missed by men which includes constipation, diarrhea, unusual abdominal pain, extreme weight loss, routine tiredness and fever. Men showing any of the aforementioned symptoms have been advised to either visit their GPs.
