Two cups of coffee a day keeps depression at bay is the motto of this study being conducted on over 50,000 US women.
Though researchers till now have not been able to reach at the root cause, now they are of the view that presence of caffeine in coffee creates wonder for brain and alter its working.
The study that got published in Archives of Internal Medicine was conducted by the Harvard Medical School research team and it took them several years to reach the above conclusion. They were followed women from 1996 to
2006 and during this period they took interviews and made them fill questionnaires based on their coffee consumption pattern. After evaluating them from said period it was found that 2600 women became depression patients. These women were those who either fell in low-coffee consumers or did not take at all.
It was revealed that those who take two cups were found to be 15% at low risk and those who take more than two cups of coffee, say four cups, were at 20% reduced risk to suffer from depression.
Further study is needed in this matter and researchers were of the view they would be able to know the exact reason and till then they could not advice women to have coffee.
