After New Zealand, Australia is also falling prey to meningococcal disease. It has been revealed according to recent reports that a woman has died due to the same at a hospital in Brisbane.
The woman was brought to Royal Brisbane and Women’s hospital about 15 day ago. She was 66-years-old and succumbed to the disease after treatment for all this while. She died in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, as revealed by public health physician Margaret Young.
There have been a number of cases of the diseases seen in the area, in the recent past. There has been the death of 11 people so far. It is essential that steps are taken for the prevention and control of this disease. The onset of the same might tend to have minor symptoms that shouldn’t be ignored. If the disease is caught in the initial stages, there are chances of recovery.
Tough he disease is not through virus and is not communicable; it needs to be controlled, considering the fact that there have already been 53 cases recorded of the disease.
"The case is a reminder for the community to be alert to the symptoms of meningococcal disease, but not alarmed”, said Dr. Young.
