Yesterday, the union of nurses held a four hour strike at the emergency department of Mid-Western Regional Hospital putting the lives of the patients in danger. Health Minister, James Reilly has criticized their move by calling it “unsafe, unsound and unwarranted”.
It has been informed that the strike was organized by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organization (INMO) and Siptu. In just one week, it is for the second time when nurses have taken the help of strike to express their agitation against the management of medical authorities. It has further been revealed that on coming Tuesday, yet another strike will take place.
Criticizing the move by the nurses, Reilly said that no amount of strike can improve the situation however it may worsen the situation by putting the health of the patients in trouble. Critical of Reilly’s view the General Secretary of the INMO, Liam Doran said that the strike could never put the health of the patients in risk.
It has been revealed that the medical staff on the duty was taking care of the patients while nurses were on strike. The planned management by the medical staff led to better treatment of patients.
