In the month of September, many organizations were seen working together with the aim of spreading awareness regarding prostate cancer. But recently, a research conducted by the Irish Cancer Society has found that after treating prostate cancer a patient may experience side effects.
According to the researchers, the common side effects of prostate cancer treatment are urinary infection and sexual disorders. However, in some cases the side effects could be extremely harming. For the research, the researchers examined about 200 prostate cancer patients.
During the research, it was found that 25% of the patients were unaware of the side effects of the treatment. However, 45% of the participants complained that the side effects affected their emotions. The biggest obstacle faced by the prostate cancer patient is that their desire for sexual intercourse decreases soon after getting treatment.
However, when the participants were asked regarding the level of satisfaction they received from the post treatment care, only 15% of the participants said that the post treatment care was helpful. The treatment proves devastating for 45% of participants as they informed that their sexual life came to end because of it. The researchers have recommended that better care for patients should be introduced so that they could be protected from the emotional and mental traumas.
