Fault in an air traffic controller resulted in to the death of six people on board following the crash of the plane, an official confirmed recently.
Here we are talking about the accident that occurred on July 28, 2004. Piper Cheyenne aircraft, which took off from Bankstown Airport in Sydney and was flying to Benalla, a small island that is located 200 kilometers in the north-east of Melbourne, unfortunately crash-landed into a tree-covered ridge in the mid way.
According to the statements received from a Victorian official Ms. Paresa Spanos on Friday upon the case, the accident occurred because of the failure of an air traffic controller. He added in his statement that the controller did not notify the pilot that his plane has changed its directions even more than 7.5 nautical miles following which, ultimately it crashed thereby killing all six people, who were on board.
Among the ones, who lost their lives in the accident were particle board Company Director Robert Henderson, his daughter Ms. Jackie Stark, her husband Mr. Alan, two of their Queensland friends Ms. Belinda Andrews and Mr. Geoff Brockie and pilot Kerry Endicott.
Reports have concluded that the air traffic controller Mr. Kevin Carey received two alerts showing that plane is 7.5 nautical miles off from its route but since he changed all the data as per his assumptions rather than getting details from Mr. Endicott, he failed to reply and act appropriately to both the alerts.
