Mums to Blame for Sexist Kids

Sexist-KidsSome scientists have recently concluded that a crucial role is played by mothers in transferring sexist attitude to their children.

The above findings were made by researchers after studying 1455 adolescents, all aged between 11 - 17 years, along with their mothers (764) and fathers (648).

Researchers said that mothers are the ones from whom children learn behavioral discrimination or in an easier language, one can say that development of discriminatory behavior in children is transferred primarily from mothers rather than fathers.

Despite the fact that mothers themselves are at high risk of becoming victim of sexism, scientists said that their results blame mother for same. They supported their reasoning by saying that children spend more than half of their time with mothers and get to know and differentiate the household chores that they are given and get encouragement to complete their respective jobs. Also, the scientists highlighted that the gifts that are given to children or the roles they infer plays a big role in the transference of values to them.

“The degree of sexism in the mother is more linked to that of her sons or daughters in comparison to the influence of the father,” said Prof. Garaigordobil from the University of Basque Country.
