On Friday, the Supreme Court of Canada announced its verdict over the stay of Vancouver injection site. The site was opened in 2003 after getting permission of using illegal drugs. Supporters of the site are of the view that the site has proved helpful in curbing the menace of excess use of illegal drugs.
In 2008, controversies were raised over working of the site, and it was sought beneficial of closing down the site. It was recommended that the drug addicts should bring in their own illegal drugs and the site should provide them clean needles so that infection arousing from used needles could be lessened.
While announcing its verdict, the court said that in the last eight years, the site has proved affective in saving many lives. The supporters of the site are of the opinion that the court has taken decision keeping in mind the rights of the Canadians.
The verdict of the court was welcomed by the professionals. The Chief Executive of Canadian Public Health Association, Debra Lynkowski said that as Canadian we all have the responsibility of making sure that the health of Canadian is secured irrespective of their lifestyle.
