Get 3D birds-eye view of routes with Google’s "helicopter view" feature

GoogleWith a sincere intention to enhance its Google Maps navigation service, the Web search giant has added a new "helicopter view" feature.

The new feature, which provides a 3D birds-eye view of a recommended route, is expected to prove very beneficial while planning road trips, biking, hiking, or a regular city travel.

With the help of helicopter view, users can have an aerial view of the desired route from any internet-connected device. In simple words, a user will feel as if he/she is flying in a helicopter above the route.

Speaking on the new feature, Google Maps engineer Paul Yang said, “Using the 3D preview; however, you can get aerial view of the route, as if you were in a helicopter flying above the road.”

As usual, users can enter start, mid or endpoint destinations to get directions on a route, but there will now appear a three-dimensional play button adjacent to the returned directions.

On pressing the three-dimensional button, the service will send the users soaring through the route via Google Earth view.

The rollout of the new feature will start this very week and will cover the entire globe eventually.
