Professor Steinman Announced as the Winner of Nobel Prize for Medicine

This year, the professors have agreed to honor Ralph M. Steinman, a Canadian scientist from New York's Rockefeller University. Also, the jury has decided to give the award to another two scientists who had developed the immune system's activation device.

Professor Steinman, the winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine has already died due to pancreatic cancer. He fought the condition for four years with the help of immunotherapy, but finally gave up, when he was 68 years old.

As per Tatiana Goryacheva, a press spokesman at the Institute's Nobel Assembly, "We didn't have any information in advance, and then, one hour after the announcement, we got a call from the Rockefeller University”. According to the Nobel Prize officials, in the history of 110 years, this is the first time that a candidate has been awarded after his death.
