Quebec Health Minister Mulls to Retain Insite

Quebec Health Minister Mulls to Retain InsiteIt seems that time is running for Quebec to decide on the future of supervised-injection clinics, as the Supreme Court has given it a green signal. It has been known that the controversy of retaining Insite in Vancouver has long been discussed, as there was an apparent set of disagreement over the same.

Meant for supervising drug addicts, the model was being appreciated by large number of drug addicts, while the government was always doubtful over the same.

While the former Quebec Health Minister Philippe Couillard had backed the model and even had interest in starting a pilot project in Montreal in 2008, but the current Health Minister, Yves Bolduc, was up against the same.

However, the situation went for a change in 2009, when it was observed that a large number of bloodborne infections have gone down in drug addicts and the credit goes to the supervised-injections sites.

As the apex court ruled in favor of keeping Insite, the ball is in the court of the province's health minister to decide on the future of Insite.

However, it's being believed that implications of the ruling on the society would be deciphered before taking the final call. "I read the judgment twice and I can tell you we're going to take a decision accordingly", said Bolduc, while ensuring that the best possible decison would be taken.
