Canada Needs Blood Donors before Thanksgiving Weekend

Canada Needs Blood Donors before Thanksgiving WeekendPrior to the thanksgiving weekend, the Canadian Blood Services have organized a blood donation movement in the region. The association wants to collect good amount of blood before people leave for their home at countryside or vacations during the weekend.

Since the weekend is marked by an occasion, therefore the blood banks want to be prepared with enough blood storage so that in the moment of need, they don't face shortages. According to estimate made by Canadian Blood Services, a person injured in an accident requires nearly 50 units of blood. Each unit of blood consists of 450 milliliters.

As per the estimate, Canada needs blood donation from 6,000 people in next 6 weeks, whereas British Columbia requires blood donation from 900 people. Also, Catherine Sloot, partnership specialist with the Canadian Blood Services, revealed that the Victorean Clinic demands 83 blood donors. In order to receive 83 blood donations, at least 104 people need to get registered because many may be found unfit to donate blood.

A single unit of blood, donated by a person, can help save up to three lives. The blood received is divided into three parts namely, platelets, red cells and plasma.
