Jonah Lomu Approved of Kidney Transplantation

Jonah-LomuJonah Lomu will be undergoing another Kidney transplantation surgery as his earlier transplantation has failed to work. The rugby player had undergone the transplantation surgery, seven years ago.

Presently, he is admitting in the Auckland City Hospital and being provided with regular dialysis and other medical attention so as to prepare him for the next surgery. This time Jonah’s wife Nadene will be donating her kidney as she has been found to be the appropriate donor. Meanwhile, Auckland District Health Board transplant unit clinical director Stephen Munn revealed that though they had a suitable donor, but Jonah’s body was not ready for the surgery.

Dr. Munn said that their various reasons that could be attached to the case of Jonah. May be he was not healthy enough to go through a surgery, or if the disease in the Kidney relapsed then there was a risk that it could retreat again and again. The dialysis is given to the patient in order to clear the waste in the kidney after it gets spoilt.

As per Dr. Munn, ''Our first priority is to see whether there's a possibility of recovering the function of the first transplant. It might have stopped because it's blocked, there's transplant rejection or disease recurrence”. Like Jonah there were another 600 patients who were waiting for a kidney transplantation surgery.
