Complying with EU charger rule, Apple has agreed to bundle its upcoming iOS-based devices with an adapter that will allow users to charge their iPhones, iPads or iPod Touchs with a Micro USB cable.
The new adaptor is a small chunk of plastic that can be slotted into the dock connector and can be used as a standard socket into which any USB cable can be heaved to charge or sync an iOS devce.
Earlier, iPhones, iPads or iPod Touchs could be charged using only Apple’s proprietary thirty-pin connection. But, industry regulators forced the Cupertino, Calif.-based gadget maker to introduce a common charger.
EU regulators said there should be an adaptor for all charging cables for handsets fom different manufacturers such as Nokia, Sony, Samsung and Apple.
It is worth mentioning here that Android, Blackberry and Windows Mobile phone handsets have already been allowing users to charge their devices with the help of standard Micro-USB.
The new adapter will cost €9 in the EU, or £8 in the UK, and will go on sale next week alongside the newly unveiled iPhone 4S.
