On Friday, the Economic Affairs Minister, Maxime Verhagen, notified that marijuana observed with higher amounts of THC, more than 15% is a strong dose and therefore it is a subject to be considered with immense care. According to recent guidelines suggest swapping marijuana with its milder variants. However, a majority of critics have raised major health concerns and insisted that it will stimulate the users to enjoy puffs many times with mild drug.
On the other hand, a psychologist at Hunter College in New York who studies addiction, Jeffrey Parsons, claimed that the government has high expectations from the move although; he doubted that it would not be a big success. He has also cited that it will definitely boost the smoking rates and therefore more harm.
While commenting on the move, the spokesman for the Platform of Cannabis Businesses in the Netherlands, Gerrit-Jan ten Bloomendal, said: "How are we going to know whether a given batch exceeds 15 per cent THC? For that matter, how would health inspectors know?''
Sources have confirmed a significant decline in licensed marijuana cafes, having a strong influence from the move when government notified to ban tourists from buying weed, earlier this year.
