The Mental Health Foundation New Zealand follows the fever of rugby world cup in the region and associates Mental Health Awareness week with it.
With the entire nation hoping to win the world cup this year, the association is popularizing the aspect mental health in a sportive manner. The theme for this year's mental health week is `get in the Game: Training for Happiness'. The foundation wants people to realize the importance of their mental health.
According to the Mental Health Foundation CEO, Judi Clements, the foundation wants people to understand that mental health does not mean nonexistence of mental illness, but knowing of various ways that can control the behavior and mood of the person, so as to avoid the occurrence of the condition.
As per Ms. Clements, "The process of change has been similar [in New Zealand to the UK], moving from long-stay institutional care in those old psychiatric hospitals into much more community-based care". Apart from encouraging detection of mental illness among people and their close relatives, the week will educate people about looking after the comfort and happiness needed to stay mentally healthy.
Just like a person cares for the physical health and takes up regular physical fitness regime, maintaining mental health also requires certain following of certain measures.
