Apple's latest iPhone, the 4S, made a new record by attracting more than one million pre-orders within 24 hours of the opening of the pre-order books.
The previous single day pre-orders record was 600,000, held by the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4S was unveiled last Tuesday during a media event at Apple's Cupertino headquarter, and was made available for pre-order on Friday.
In the United States, the iPhone 4S is available to order via three mobile phone carriers, viz. AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. The entry-level model costs $200 with a 2-year service.
Impressed with the pre-order figures of the iPhone 4S, AT&T said that the release of the latest model was the most successful launch of any iPhone via a carrier. The carrier claimed that received more than 200,000 pre-orders in just 12 hours after it started accepting pre-orders for the handset.
The pre-order figures stunned many analysts as the launch of the iPhone 4S was a matter of disappointment for many Apple fans who had eagerly been waiting for iPhone 5.
Available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage capacities, the iPhone 4S features an 8-megapixel camera, a faster A5 central processor and voice recognition technology.
