The launch of the Apple iPhone 4S had disappointed many analysts as the Cupertino, Calif.-based gadget maker was widely anticipated to introduce the iPhone 5, but the new iPhone hasn't disappointed the company and the carriers.
The iPhone 4S recorded more than 1 million pre-orders within 24 hours after the company started accepting pre-orders, smashing previous record of 600,000 pre-orders held by the iPhone 4.
Carriers also recorded unprecedented pre-order sales figures. AT&T said that the iPhone 4S' release was the most successful launch of any iPhone through a carrier. AT&T, which has been selling the iPhone since the first version was launched in 2007, claimed that recorded more than 200,000 pre-orders in merely twelve hours after it listed the phone for pre-orders.
Other iPhone 4S carriers, viz. Verizon and Sprint, also said that they impressive numbers of preorders for the latest iPhone, but they didn't disclose their figures.
The iPhone 4S has three major enhancements over the existing iPhone 4- a faster dual-core A5 processor, a better photo snapper and a new software called Siri Assistant, which allows users to control their handsets using their voice. It enables users to send messages, make calls and take notes, schedule meetings and even book restaurant tables just by speaking into their phones.
