The latest worldwide BlackBerry outage that left millions of RIM customers without email or text services could provoke many angry customers to switch over to alternative smartphones.
Angry customers have already flooded Twitter and other social networking sites with complaints against the outage, with some even threatening that they were ready to give up the BlackBerry.
BlackBerry users in Europe, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, South America, India, Middle East and Africa have been suffering problems in send & receive messages, emails, and browsing the Internet.
RIM admitted the worldwide outage, and said it was caused by a core switch failure, which resulted into a massive backlog of data.
Charles Golvin, an analyst at Forrester Research, said that the outage was certainly not good for the Canadian smartphone maker which was already suffering a fall in its market share and value.
Speaking on the topic, Golvin added, "I don't think I'd go as far as to say this is the straw that breaks the camel's back for most customers, but it's hugely damaging, especially in light of the current competitive landscape."
RIM executives have long been under intense pressure from activist investors who want drastic changes at the firm.
