Very often our email’s inbox is filled by the unwanted advertisements. These advertisements are unfortunately spam, which carries virus, potential of putting the security of the computer in trouble.
It has been reported by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) that in just one year, the number of complaints of span emails have surged to more than 30,000. In 2003, the federal legislation was introduced with the aim of tackling the crime of transferring spam emails. Since its introduction, a large number of spam cases have been dealt with.
The problem with spam or unwanted emails doesn’t only restrict to emails. A large number of complains have also been received regarding the unwanted text. To protect the customers from the unwanted text messages, the ACMA introduced Do Not Call Register.
The Do Not Call Register helped many customers to avoid unwanted phone calls from tele-shopping firms. However, the issue of spam emails is yet to be resolved. There is no doubt that customers are getting aware about their rights to restrict the spam emails. There is need to tackle the issue so that the comfort of the customer is restored.
The ACMA has been successful since its introduction. It has strived to bring about changes in the way a customer controls the services which he avails. However, there is need to bring further changes so that the culprits sending spam emails could be caught or minimized in number.
